![]() SHOPPING LIST Buying, trading and selling golf clubs can be a difficult ordeal, but the PGA.com Value Guide, a service run in conjunction with eBay, has an extensive library of clubs from major manufacturers that lists re-sale and trade-in values. So if you’re looking to add some muscle with a new driver or sink more putts with a putter you had when you first took up the game, check out www. valueguide.pga.com KIDS PLAY FREE One of the premier golf and learning facilities in the Coachella Valley is offering the best possible deal for kids this summer: they can play golf for free. Marriott’s Shadow Ridge Resort’s Kids Golf 4 Free program allows children 15 and under to play for free when accompanied by a full-paying adult after 3 p.m. In addition, the facility offers free lessons anytime for kids when an accompanying adult is taking a fully paid lesson from a Marriott golf instructor. Both lessons must be taken at the same time. For more information on the program, including restrictions that may apply at participating golf clubs, visit www.marriottgolf.com. TIME IS ON YOUR SIDE The trade-off for higher temperatures is longer days, meaning budget-conscious golfers can experience great savings by taking advantage of the myriad twilight and super-twilight starting times available at nearly every Southern California golf course. Most courses offer twilight rates beginning after 2 p.m., with super twilight rates kicking in around 3:30 or 4 p.m. With enough daylight making it possible to play until after 8 p.m. in most areas, golfers can generally get a full round of golf for substantially less than rack rate. SUMMER SCHOOL ESPN Golf Schools is bringing its one-day Three Club Tour to Black Gold in Yorba Linda and the TPC of Valencia in July. The school concentrates on the driver, wedge and putter. For $495, students receive a Nike Sasquatch driver, SV wedge and Oz T100 putter. If the July schools are sold out, they’re back in August, November and December. For more information, visit www.espngolfschools.com. The event will include an extensive golf clinic, food, raffles and an 18-hole tournament — all for $99. Click4teetimes.com president Mike Carran said golfers will be assigned to one of five groups, and participate in each station, which will focus on one of five areas: the full swing, chipping and pitching, putting, rules and regulations, and fitness. After the clinic, which should last about three hours, there will be a chance to hit some balls, eat lunch and then participate in the tournament. The instructors are short-game guru Bob Cisco, former PGA Tour player Patrick Burke, Green River head pro Eddie Rodarte and Click- 4teetimes golf pro Paul Stillwell. “The event is a kick-off for a new feature we’ll be offering,” Carran said. “It’s our way of committing to game improvement.” The clinic begins at 10 a.m., followed by lunch and an 18-hole shotgun start at 3 p.m. For more information, call (800) 920-2488 or visit www.click-4teetimes.com.
