For most men, golf is all about the swing and the score. But take it from your fashion-conscious counterparts - it doesn't hurt to look good, too. A certain confidence comes with a tailored outfit. Gone are the days when polos absorb and reveal sweat and pants that are too snug - or too loose - hinder your comfort. Clothing designers are stepping up their new lines and the Greg Norman Collection is no exception. While its designers have been focusing on fit and fashion since the 1990s, this fall they've unveiled the Signature Series collection that delivers function in luxury fabrics. Oversized and ill-fitting apparel have been replaced with cottons that breathe and Lycra that helps retain shape. This season's performance-fit pants ($88) feature a stretch technology constructed within the waistband that moves with your swing. The pleated pants are available in black, tan, stone and earl gray. The flat-front design is offered in black and tan. Woven shirts ($88-$98), available in five solid colors and three patterns, are moisture wicking. The polyester mix has a soft, silky feel with an added performance element that has the look of cotton. Perhaps the best example of the fall line's move toward a higher-end luxury sportswear is the 95 percent cashmere sweater ($210) available in black, papaya, spearmint and pomegranate. The small amount of Lycra means there's no pilling and the sweater retains its shape. "We try to reach that golfer who wants comfort along with style," said Nikki DiGennaro, a spokesperson for the Greg Norman Collection. "We deliver function with the latest technical fabrics and a refined fashion with detailed styling." Customers seem to agree. "The Signature Series continues to be the foundation of our very successful Greg Norman Collection business," said Jeff Hubeli, a buyer for La Quinta and La Costa resort and spas. "The fabrications and styling are recognized by the customer as high-quality and innovative." Julie Kizzire, area retail manager for The Westin La Cantera Resort in San Antonio, Texas, was also among those who caught a glimpse of the Signature Series at a fall preview show this year. "The interest in fabrication, textures and colors has invaded the golf world," Kizzire said. "The Greg Norman Signature Series combines all of these elements into an array of on-course and off-course wear." Said DiGennaro: "The response has been so great that we anticipate we'll exceed sales with the spring line." n For more information, visit www.gregnormancollection.com. |
