Swinging in Style

Looking cool on the course is easy with these hot summer fashions.

By CATHERINE RISLINGPublished: June, 2006

Color and comfort have inspired the summer season’s hottest offerings. From sandals and sunglasses to skorts and shirts, emphasis is on form, function and the unforgettable fashions that deliver a cooler game.

So if you want to hit Southland golf courses in style, read on and discover what’s sizzling as the temperatures start to heat up.

LIZGOLF
Mini Capsleeve Mockneck & Audra Ankle Pants

Expanding its always-impressive line of sophisticated coordinates, Lizgolf has unveiled its golf line in delicious summer shades: pistachio, watermelon, fuchsia and sugar pea.

Polos are available in silk and pima cotton, and incorporate Lizgolf’s signature Dry-Tech fabric treatment for a tailored fit that keeps you dry.

The pants are made with stretchy cotton-spandex pique, and the textured cotton-spandex skort, another perfect fit, features a floral appliqué.

And if that’s not enough to get you dressed in a hurry, some of Lizgolf’s spring fabrics feature anti-insect technology that repels mosquitoes, flies, ants and other pesky critters. Prices range from $45 to $69.

GG BLUE
Island Hat

GG Blue took a conservative approach when it jumped in the golf apparel marketplace last year.

This season, colors have gotten bolder and the florals more prominent. While we love their clothes, we think GG Blue’s Island cotton-Lycra floppy hats with grosgrain ties are fun and perfect for summer. The hat ($48) is available in solid red, white and black and florals, including Aqua Flower (an aqua and fuchsia mix), Ocean Wave (a green, yellow and aqua pattern) and Lily Print (a combination of red, gray and black).

The idea is to match the fabric from the line’s bottom pieces through the seasons.

“What people like about the hat is that you can pull the tie and cinch it so it’s adjustable for just about any head size,” said Kathy Reed, GG Blue’s managing director. “Our customers also like that the hat blocks their nose and face from the sun perfectly.”

ROGER GENUIN
Avery Women’s Golf Shoe

Introduced two years ago, the ballerina-style shoe continues to rank as one of Walter Genuin’s most popular with women golfers. New to the extensive 80-piece line is the Avery shoe ($295), which sports a faux snakeskin print.

“These shoes are perfect because you can walk off the course and onto 5th Avenue without having to change your shoes,” Genuin said. “And, you can get a nice tan on your feet without a line around your ankle.”

The slip-on ballerinas are comprised of leather, canvas, stretch fabric, or a combination of these materials, depending on the style.

BITE FOOTWEAR
Crossbuck Golf Sandals

There’s no better way to keep your feet cool and air circulating than by wearing sandals. That’s possible thanks to Bite Footwear.

Crossbuck leather sandals are fitted with Velcro straps and a toe guard for foot protection. Stability is key when it comes to footing, and the arc and sole design provides the support you need. The lightweight base also makes the sandals a comfortable fit.

These sandals look so good that the only indication you’ve been golfing would be the grass caught in the soft spikes.

They cost $70 and are available in gray or brown.
