An Eye for Fashion, Too

Sunglasses giant Oakley now has a line of golf apparel that is colorful, cutting edge and comfortable.

It takes guts and a lot of experience for a sunglasses company with humble Orange County beginnings to launch a golf apparel line.

But that’s what Oakley did two years ago.

Oakley, based in Foothill Ranch, manufactures forward-thinking golf shoes, apparel and accessories, in addition to a successful line of sunglasses, some designed with the golfer in mind.

With an edgy approach typical of Oakley fashions, this fall’s coordinating apparel for men features waterproof camouflage jacket and pant designs and two-tone sweaters and vests. The short-sleeve Dizzee ($55) features a checked pattern on the back of the shirt, the sleeves and the pocket, colors that coordinate with a solid-hue front available in dark brown, white and slate green.

PGA Tour rookie Ryan Moore loves Oakley’s cotton plaid Cleat Pant ($75) in yellow, Zip Tye golf shoe ($130) and the metal-frame Square Wire sunglasses ($145). Pick just about any shirt, Oakley says — he loves them all.

Ribbed polos and embroidered mocks (available in short and long sleeves) are available in dark brown, olive green and khaki. In addition, Oakley carries three short-length pants that look more like board shorts than golf attire.

Accessories include a logo Silicon O Cap ($24) in four colors, the camouflage Distressed Camo Cap ($22) in three hues, the Bogey Bucket hat ($32) in three colors, and three styles of visors ($20-$22). Men can also choose from a line of leather shoes, socks, gloves and even a leather belt.

Oakley’s women’s line this season offers form-fitting sleeveless tees with innovative necklines in berry, green, yellow, sand and black. The Distance ($45), for example, is a halter-style polo with a rounded neckline and a print design side panel. The Single ($42) top has an asymmetric neckline and side slits. Women can go collarless with the Hook short-sleeve top with a multicolored appliqué on the lower side of the shirt, or introduce a bit of color with the Ace 1/2-sleeve polo with inner front plackets and matching shoulder detailing in a subtle plaid design.

For cooler days on the course, the 97 percent cotton and 3 percent spandex Palmer ($60) and Flex ($65) pants feature argyle and plaid designs, respectively. If you desire more flexibility, the Trophy pant ($58) is 65 percent polyester and 35 percent nylon and available in white, concrete and black.

The women’s line also includes a sleeveless dress, shorts in three lengths, a skirt with undershort, and long-sleeve shirts with mock neck or crew neck designs. Leather shoes, socks, a cap and visor and a floral bandana finish off the fall line.  N
