There are plenty of U.S. Open tickets available for the general public at normal prices — for 2009 and beyond. The approximately 45,000 public tickets for this month’s U.S. Open at Torrey Pines sold out months ago. But don’t despair: There are options if you can afford them. • As of May 8, full-week ticket strips were being offered from $480 to $1,500, with Trophy Club tickets ranging from $648-$1,700, at stubhub.com. • At coasttocoasttickets.com, single-day tickets for Thursday were priced as low as $79. • Craigslist.com features private ticket holders selling daily and weekly passes. Make sure to make personal contact with the buyer and be smart about your purchase. • Ebay.com is generally safer than other online sites, but bidding wars could drive up the prices significantly. • Sandiegogolf.com also sells tickets from individual buyers and has information on ticket-and-lodging packages. Call (866) 701-4653. Like any online purchase, the risk is yours, so make sure it’s a reputable seller with some kind of insurance in case tickets are forgeries or never get sent to you. But if your heart is set on seeing this year’s U.S. Open and you don’t want to deal with the anxiety of finding tickets, your best bet is to park yourself in front of the TV. You’ll miss out on the thrill of attending one of the biggest sporting events in the world, but at least you won’t have to wait in line to use the bathroom. |
