Danny Lee is for real. If his dominant win at last year’s U.S. Amateur didn’t prove that, his come-from-behind triumph at last month’s Johnnie Walker Classic did. The 18-year-old New Zealand amateur won’t turn pro until after the Masters, and when he does, he’ll be an instant media sensation. I’d like a mulligan on my 2009 major predictions – after watching Luke Donald on the West Coast Swing, I think he’ll break through for his first grand slam triumph this season. He plays within himself, has a rock solid game around the greens and plays tough tracks as well as anybody. Nice to hear that the LPGA Tour will be adding another Southern California event to its 2010 schedule. Our region has supported three PGA Tour events for over 50 years apiece, and if Korea’s JoongAng Broadcasting Corporation can remain a stable sponsor and TV partner, the new event should become a staple. |
