The Northern Trust Open has been greatly enhanced by the addition of Ryo Ishikawa. The 17-year-old Japanese phenom is already an overseas sensation and will be making his first American appearance at Riviera. Last year, he became the youngest player ever to crack the top 100 in the world golf rankings.
I enjoy the Ryder Cup just as much as the next guy, but can we be a bit more patient when it comes to hyping up the 2010 matches in Wales? Yes, it will be fun to see if Americans can emulate the grittiness of Captain Corey Pavin, but I’m more interested in seeing what Pavin has to offer with his own game this year.
UCLA alum Parker McLachlin may have struggled when he teed it up in his native Hawaii last month (T24 at Kapalua, MC at Waialae), but at least he got to shoot hoops with newly-inaugurated President Barack Obama in December. McLachlin’s dad coached Obama in basketball at Punahou School.
