The PGA of America and the USGA announced their joint initiative, TEE IT FORWARD, last summer. Since then, more than 1,800 facilities across the nation have started implementing the program, including 70 facilities here in Southern California.
The premise of TEE IT FORWARD is simple:
1) Play forward tees;
2) Play faster;
3) Have more fun.
TEE IT FORWARD is great for beginning and avid golfers alike. TEE IT FORWARD can give the avid golfer a tour experience, allowing them to hit the same club into greens as a PGA Tour or LPGA Tour player would while maximizing playability.
“Many amateurs are regularly hitting approach shots on a par-4 hole from 185 to 205 yards out. The fact is, most bogey golfers only hit approach shots, generally, with any accuracy from within 170 yards. By teeing it forward, they have the potential to hit approach shots from 145 to 165 yards, with more lofted clubs that might help them play faster, score better and have more fun,” said Barney Adams, founder of Adams Golf.
Southland golfers have been enjoying the experience. The Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage has been utilizing TEE IT FORWARD at both of its resort courses. “Members and guests at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley have been receptive to TEE IT FORWARD,” explains Ric Moore, PGA Head Professional.
