The Inland Empire’s newest course will have a familiar name as designer: Dye. But this time it isn’t Pete Dye, or his brother, Perry. It’s Matt E. Dye, designer of Dos Lagos Golf Club in Corona. Located in a valley next to Cleveland National Forest, the par-70, 6,530-yard course is set to open in May. With homes bordering only three holes, the layout has a secluded feel that is rare for new public courses these days. “You can see the course from the freeway but it still feels remote,” said Matt Donovan, part of the Donovan Brothers management team that will run the course. “Once you get on the back nine you really feel you’re in the country.” Though not imposing in length, water comes into play on four holes, with three lakes and Temescal Creek utilized in the layout. “It’s not overly penal, but it’s not going to be a cakewalk,” Donovan said. “There are some elevation changes, water on four holes and it has some really strong par 3s.” Though green fees have yet to be set, Donovan said Dos Lagos will play like a high-end daily-fee course but at a “moderate price. We’ll be competitive with other courses in the area.” Visit doslagos.net. SG |
