The relatively flat layout is lined with trees, and while approach shots to many greens are well guarded by sand traps, the track is anything but deceptive. “The layout here is very player friendly,” said Kris Dennis, who became general manager at the course last fall. “Golfers can come here and have a really good time.” Experienced players who decide to play from the black tees better have their “A” game with the driver, especially coming out of the gate. The second hole stretches 461 yards and sports tree trouble on both sides. Overall, seven of the 10 par 4s at El Rancho Verde measure more than 400 yards. Players who consistently find the greens will be rewarded with plenty of birdie chances, as the greens aren’t too undulating and roll true without breakneck pace. What also makes the facility player friendly is an array of green fee specials and discounts. El Rancho Verde is managed by Pacific Golf Enterprises, a company that prides itself on value. “We’re trying to provide people with a great golfing experience to the point where they’re not spending all their hard-earned cash,” Dennis said.
