Better with age

Menifee Lakes Country Club, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this month, remains a solid bet.

Of the 36 holes at Menifee Lakes Country Club, water hazards come into play on 22 of them. That’s not surprising considering both of the facility’s 18-hole tracks were designed by the late Ted Robinson — the “King of Waterscapes” — but the hazards aren’t as intrusive as their sheer quantity might make them out to be.

Water at Menifee Lakes is more for visual appeal, fostering a serene, friendly vibe that reflects the facility as a whole.

That friendly vibe has served the Inland Empire venue well, as have a convenient location and affordable green fees. This month, Menifee Lakes is celebrating 20 years of operation, and to commemorate the special occasion, festivities will be held all day on Saturday, October 24. Equipment companies will be on hand with demos of their latest equipment, hamburgers and hot dogs will be served outside and patrons can win prizes in putting and chipping contests.

Menifee Lakes is a semi-private facility with affordable annual membership packages, and as a daily-fee facility, it’s one of the top values in the Inland Empire. The public has access to locker rooms and other amenities in the spacious 20,000-square-foot clubhouse, which also is one of the region’s most acclaimed venues for weddings and banquets.

As far as offering a test of golf, the Lakes and Palms courses call for solid drives on friendly fairways, which give
way to greens with pronounced undulations — another Robinson signature element.
