Next on the Tee-The Crossings at Carlsbad

Southern California's newest course, The Crossings at Carlsbad, is set to open this month.

By JOEL BEERSPublished: August, 2007

After nearly 20 years of planning, The Crossings at Carlsbad finally opens to the public on August 11.

Operated by Kemper Sports, the city-owned course, named for the five bridges, or crossings, on the property, is located about a mile from the beach.
Green fees will range from $40-$110.

"It's a fantastic course, but I think we're as much of a community entity as a golf course," said general manager Jeff Perry. "The clubhouse is gorgeous and is a place for people whether they play golf or not. We can host large events like weddings or meetings, people can enjoy breakfast and lunch seven days a week, and we have a lighted range that stays open until 9 p.m. So you can either visit us for an hour or spend all day here."

The course, designed by Greg Nash, measures 6,850 yards from the back tees and features two distinct nines. The first, which offers ocean views, eases golfers into the round, Perry said, with the back nine a more canyon-style course.

"There are forced carries and drop-offs, along with doglegs and blind tee shots," Perry said. "It's a challenge from the back and you must hit it straight."  SG
