![]() Like most Ted Robinson courses, Glen Ivy features plenty of water hazards (PHOTO: Eddie Meeks). I played the Ted Robinson-designed course, located about 10 minutes south of Corona and operated by Gratitude Golf Management, for the first time last month and found it to be a fair test. Like other Robinson tracks, there were plenty of water features, although what differed was the lack of wild undulations on the greens — a change I gladly welcomed. I played the blue tees at a digestible 6,332 yards. Generous landing areas on most holes allowed me to hit driver almost always, but the most memorable holes were the par 3s, even though I hit my tee shots into the water on the ninth and 14th holes. I’ll just chalk it up to being distracted by the scenery. The last two holes alone are almost worth the price of admission. The 17th, a 187-yard par 3 framed by the mountains of the Cleveland National Forest, requires players to carry a steep area to a thin green that looks even thinner from the tee because of adjacent hillsides and a white ranch fence that closely guards the left side. The 18th hole has an approximately 200-foot drop from tee box to fairway. After finding one of the two bunkers off the tee, I hit my approach shot into the water (yes, more distractions), which didn’t lead to a great score but hardly detracted from a great time on the course. The course is in superb shape thanks to an ownership transition headed by interim club president Jay Miller, who also operates Norco’s Hidden Valley Golf Club. The Golf Club at Glen Ivy: By the Numbers 6,673: Yardage from the tips. There are four sets of tees, with the most forward option measuring 5,439 yards. 72.0: Course rating from the tips. The rating from the blue tees, where I played from, is 70.9. 2002: Year the course opened. 7: Number of holes where water is in play, five of which are on the back nine. 200: Approximate vertical drop, in feet, from the 18th tee down to the fairway. 541: Length of the longest hole, the par-5 10th. However, it does play shorter since it’s downhill. 30: Green fee, in dollars, for playing after 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Before noon on those days, it’s $45. On Friday, green fees are $55 before noon and $35 after 3 p.m. On weekends and holidays, the rate is $70 before noon and $40 after 2:30 p.m. (cart included, valid this month only).
