![]() Hillsides and water features enhance the scenery at Tierra Rejada. I played there for the first time recently and was pleased with the diversity of the layout and the relaxing hillside setting. Maybe I became lost in my serenity because I struggled mightily on the first hole, a long par 5 with water down most of the left side and mountains on the right. As far as opening tests go, this one will definitely grab your attention with anything less than solid execution. Make sure to play smart — I sure didn’t. I was captivated by the 455-yard par-4 third. The landing area is almost invisible from the tee — favor the right side since any shot too far left is in the canyon. My solid drive was rewarded with extra roll on the downhill fairway, leaving a short approach. Tierra Rejada has plenty of elevation changes, bunkers and undulating putting surfaces. As with any adventurous mountain course, keep your tee shots in the short grass and stay below the cup on the greens. My favorite hole is the short but exciting par-3 17th. At under 120 yards, it’s merely a wedge, but the green’s multiple tiers make it look like a potato chip from the elevated tee. Anything less than a well-struck tee shot is almost an automatic bogey. Overall, I enjoyed Tierra Rejada for its tranquility and variety. Tierra Rejada Golf Club: By the Numbers 7,017: Yardage from the tips.
