![]() If you’re unfamiliar with the Central California town of Dinuba, here are a few quick facts: It’s home to one of the largest Wal-Marts in California, former state Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante was born there, and it’s only about an hour away from Sequoia National Park. Dinuba’s community of about 21,000 also has an intriguing new golf course — Ridge Creek Dinuba Golf Club. Open since July, the John Fought-crafted layout is owned by the city and managed by KemperSports. The course is part of a broader plan for the area to ameliorate a water buildup resulting from the processing of wastewater. Ridge Creek is built on heathland (rolling inland terrain that drains well thanks to sandy soil), and since the area is flat, Fought had a clean slate to work with. The links-inspired course has wide fairways, large greens and traditional bunkers. Five sets of tees provide options for golfers of all skills, and those wishing to test themselves should find suitable challenge from the silver tees, which measure a robust 7,482 yards. Much of that yardage is on the par-5 15th hole, named “Tragedy.” At 653 yards, it’s one of the longest holes in the state — but it isn’t a bomber’s delight, because three fairway bunkers on the right affect tee shots, and the second shot has two lay-up routes to consider. Other highlights include the driveable par-4 fourth, the long par-3 seventh and its nearly 10,000-square-foot green, and a 500-yard par 4 to end the round. One of Ridge Creek’s most distinctive aspects is a 360-degree, 25-acre practice facility and two short-game practice areas. Three Finger Jack’s Restaurant and Bar has a diverse menu of meats and seafood as well as breakfast selections. There also are weekly specials and happy hour from Monday through Thursday. Ridge Creek Dinuba Golf Club also has the Ridge Creek Rewards program that costs $125 annually and entitles members to benefits like green fee savings of up to 30 percent and a discounted cart fee. Dinuba is about three hours from Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Fresno. Stay-and-play packages are available. For more information: (559) 591-2254 or visit golfridgecreek.com. |
