Sandpiper and Rancho San Marcos are Santa Barbara staples

While one is regarded as one of the most beautiful oceanfront courses in California, the other is one of the state’s most memorable inland tracks.

Sandpiper Golf Course has views of the Pacific Ocean on 14 of its 18 holes and a lengthy layout that plays 7,068 yards from the tips. Holes like the 224-yard, par-3 11th demand precise execution for a solid score, though the incredibly scenic tee shot should leave an indelible memory no matter what you write on your card.

If you haven’t played Sandpiper in a while, you’ll notice slightly tighter fairways and more natural landscaping because of the growth of a taller native grass on the furthest edges of the holes.

Located about 25 minutes from Sandpiper, Rancho San Marcos Golf Course is framed by a diverse array of trees and the stately Santa Ynez Mountains. The layout is undisturbed by any homes or other structures, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a tranquil getaway.

Patrons are still raving about a broad renovation to the golf course, completed in the summer of 2007. New greens and white-sand bunkers have enhanced the course’s aesthetics, and modifications to fairway sight lines on a few holes also have been well received.

Whether you have your heart set on playing Rancho San Marcos or Sandpiper — or both — it’s easy to book a trip of any period of time, thanks to a variety of stay-and-play packages. Simply call either facility, each of which is run by Ty Warner Hotels and Resorts, to inquire about current deals.
