![]() The Big Easy at Tustin Ranch is an economical alternative to regulation-length courses and also a great place for beginners (PHOTO: Eddie Meeks). It’s called “The Big Easy,” which is an executive layout divided into two nine-hole tracks. Every hole is a shorter version of an existing hole on Tustin Ranch’s regulation layout. The Big Easy is set up on the back nine in the morning and front nine in the late afternoon and early evening. On weekdays, adults can play for $26 and juniors for $18; juniors have the same rate on weekends and holidays and adults pay $28. “We realize in tough economic times that not everybody has time and resources to enjoy the 18-hole championship course experience,” said Tustin Ranch General Manager Steve Plummer. “We’ve provided an alternative way to play. This brings new people to golf and makes it more fun.” The short layout isn’t intimidating for beginners, but it’s no pushover, either. The ninth hole, normally a par 5 with a water-guarded green, is a 249-yard par 4 that calls for two well-struck shots for a chance at birdie. The signature 11th hole, normally a par 3 that can stretch to 170 yards, is a 60-yard test that brings the water and front-left greenside bunker into play. Plus, players must contend with the undulating putting surfaces, which almost never guarantee an easy two-putt. What the Big Easy lacks in length is made up for in versatility — it’s a great spot to sneak in a quick round with friends, learn the game in a relaxed setting, or bring employees for a fun corporate team building experience.
