STROKE OF THE DAY |
"Everyone has his own choking level, a level at which he fails to play his normal golf. As you get more experienced, your choking level rises." |

There are few Southern California golf destinations that can tout two 18-hole courses with contrasting characteristics. Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort in Palm Springs is one. The Legend Course, designed by William F. Bell in the 1950s, features more traditional elements such as tree-lined fairways. The Resort Course, crafted by Ted Robinson Sr., opened in 1995 and embodies the traits of a modern layout. Water doesn't come into play on the Legend but is a factor on five holes on the Resort, which also has rolling terrain while the Legend is relatively flat. Trees also are prominent on the Legend but are almost entirely absent at the Resort. While general manager Brian Stewart acknowledges the two venues offer a similar challenge, he notes the straightforward nature of the Legend makes it ideal for seniors and beginners. "The Legend Course has your typical old-school architecture," he said. "The Resort Course has your new, modern-day architecture. It's like old versus new."
