STROKE OF THE DAY |
"Everyone has his own choking level, a level at which he fails to play his normal golf. As you get more experienced, your choking level rises." |

![]() The clubhouse, designed by MDR Architects in a craftsman style, is now open and the restaurant is serving lunch. The only aspect of The Links at Summerly needing growth prior to opening is the grass. Because of the fluctuations in weather this year, customary fall conditions would enhance playability at the time of the opening. "It's kind of up to Mother Nature at this point. Growing in a golf course can never be exact," said Tom Frost, whose company is managing the property. "September and October are going to be important growing months." The Links at Summerly, designed by Orange County-based architect Cal Olsen, channels the old links courses of Scotland by including burns and subtle undulations amidst relatively flat terrain and features five par 5s and par 3s. It also will be part of a select group of venues in California to feature salt-tolerant, seashore paspalum grass fairways. Walking those fairways will be encouraged. "I think that's an important part of the game of golf that's kind of been forgotten," Frost said. "It makes the game more affordable for people, too." Green fees, which will range from $69 with a cart on weekends to $50 on weekdays, will be $10 cheaper for walkers. SG For more information, call (951) 674-3900, or visit linksatsummerly.com. |
