BEST CLUBHOUSE Coachella Valley: Classic Club (Pictured)In addition to being one of the Coachella Valley’s top havens for daily-fee golfers, Classic Club has a 63,000-square-foot clubhouse that’s one of the desert’s most amazing structures. Inland Empire: Journey at Pechanga The newest championship course in Southern California also has one of the snazziest clubhouses. The indoor 30-foot waterfall is a sight to behold. San Diego: The Crossings at Carlsbad The Crossings at Carlsbad’s clubhouse isn’t the largest, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in simple elegance and great views, not to mention the cozy accommodations at Canyons Restaurant. Orange County: Anaheim Hills Golf Course Not many municipal courses can boast a clubhouse like that of Anaheim Hills, which is an ideal place to grab a drink or host a group function for a couple-hundred people. Los Angeles: Trump National Golf Club Amazing views, spectacular conditions and luxurious accoutrements — these could be used to describe the course at Trump National in Rancho Palos Verdes, though they’re equally befitting of the magnificent clubhouse. BEST RESORT Orange County: Resort at Pelican Hill (Pictured)Ocean views, lavish rooms, luxurious amenities and two Tom Fazio courses — that’s tough to top. San Diego: The Grand Del Mar Developer Douglas Manchester sought to create the king of resorts, and he may have done it. The Grand Del Mar is secluded and serene while still being quite close to the ocean. Coachella Valley: Marriott Desert Springs Resort Come here during the Bob Hope Classic and you just might bump into big-time pro golfers or celebrities — Nick Faldo was a guest earlier this year. Los Angeles: Pacific Palms Resort Perhaps no other resort in Southern California can boast the Hollywood connections of Pacific Palms, where a recent episode of HBO’s “Entourage” was shot. The refurbished courses are classic golf at their best while the hotel exudes affordable modern elegance. Inland Empire: Temecula Creek Inn Golf Resort Whether you’re after wine tasting, golf or getting away from it all, T.C.I. is a great hub. BEST CASINO RESORT Coachella Valley: Fantasy Springs Resort Casino (Pictured)The fascinating links-inspired Eagle Falls Golf Course harkens back to an earlier time period. In addition, Fantasy Springs Casino is a premier desert entertainment destination. Inland Empire: Journey at Pechanga The largest casino in the state now has one of the coolest new courses in the country, with majestic elevation changes and Southland PGA Tour star Corey Pavin helping with promotion. San Diego: Sycuan Resort A San Diego staple for more than 50 years, the 54-hole golf facility at Sycuan complements one of the largest and most convenient gaming facilities in the region. BEST FOOD Coachella Valley: Desert Willow Golf Resort The food at this 36-hole Palm Desert facility is so good they had to expand the size of the restaurant to accommodate more guests. Orange County: Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club O’Neill’s Bar and Grill at Mission Viejo’s Arroyo Trabuco has something for everyone — your round isn’t complete until you’ve topped it off with a hearty choice like the pulled pork sandwich. Los Angeles: Trump National Golf Club In addition to the Golfer’s Lounge and Cafe Pacific inside the clubhouse, Trump National boasts a superb outdoor grill at the turn with fresh favorites cooked over an open flame. Inland Empire: Hidden Valley Golf Club A range of pastas, grilled meats and seafood — as well as traditional golf course fare — await at Villa Amalfi Ristorante, which opened at the Norco facility two years ago. San Diego: Torrey Pines Golf Course (The Lodge at Torrey Pines Grill & Bar) Whether you’re trying to energize yourself for an early-morning round or unwind at one of the Southland’s premier coastal spots, the Lodge has the cuisine to make your experience memorable. |
