Best at show

Finding merchandise and gadgets at Orlando’s annual PGA event is easy; figuring out what to buy is more of a dilemma.

By Eric TracyPublished: May, 2010

The PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando is a gadget seeker’s dream, with more than 1,000 exhibitors on hand in January to show their wares.

Having had a chance to put many of the show’s wares to the test, these are the five products that have truly caught my eye:

Loud Mouth Golf Pants
John Daly has done his best to put Loud Mouth Golf Pants in the spotlight for men. Now the apparel company is introducing its women’s line, which was the hit of the show. The outrageous and colorful prints now come in slacks, shorts, skorts and mini-shorts starting at $50. Visit loudmouthgolf.com for a look.

Heavy Wedge
Boccieri Golf, the inventor of Heavy Putters, added wedges to its line this year. The Heavy Wedge is designed to keep your hands out of the shot by giving you something more solid to hang on to. Wedges come in 52-, 56-, and 60-degree models and sell for $110 at theheavywedge.com.

Golf Boomerang
Think of the Golf Boomerang as a driving range that weighs only 10 pounds and is completely portable. Just hit the ball, which is attached to an ultra-thin string, and it’s reeled back to you. The sensors built into the machine calculate ball speed and landing distance. The suggested retail price is $1,250. Check it out at golfboomerang.com.

SuperStroke Putter Grips
The extra-large grips are designed to reduce wrist breaks and enhance a pendulum stroke. The new SuperStroke models, Fatso Lite and Slim, install in moments over your existing grip without solvents, tapes or glue. They start at $20 each. Give them a roll at Roger Dunn Golf Shops or check them out at tigersharkgolf.com.

The Putting Game
Depending on which of the six games you play, The Putting Game’s three-digit numeric display indicates your score or how far past the cup your ball would have traveled if you miss the center lights that are the width of a regulation cup. Some serious engineering went into The Putting Game, which sells for $299 at theputtinggame.com.
