TaylorMade Golf R9 SuperTri Driver

One of the PGA Tour's hottest drivers could be in your bag today.

BY JOEL BEERSPublished: April, 2010

MSRP:
$399 per driver.

Specs: 460cc clubhead; 8.5-11.5-degree loft; 45.75-inch shaft; 59-degree lie; 59-gram, Fujikura Motore 60 shaft in four flexes.

Features: The SuperTri’s massive head can be tweaked into one of 24 face combinations, allowing up to 75 yards in side-to-side trajectory. A reshaped crown offers reduced wind resistance and the 62mm face is the deepest for a driver with moveable weight technology.

Who is it made for: Better golfers, since the large clubhead and moveable weight system might be too much for less accomplished players to master.

What they’re saying about it: “TaylorMade’s R9 and R9 460 were created because TaylorMade didn’t yet have the ability to combine both flight control technology and moveable weight technology in a 460cc head,” said Todd Beach, TaylorMade’s senior director of metalwood development. “A year later, we do.”

Why you should try it: If you’re the kind of golfer who loves tweaking your golf club and isn’t afraid of hands-on technology, this club could be suited to your game.
