![]() Irvine-based Simpac has applied the concept to its new S-Cube series. The CT58 model has a strong cobalt face and the TWS3 screw weight system on the back of the head, which is designed to stabilize off-center hits. We took the CT58 3- and 5-wood models to an Orange County driving range to get some impressions. Name: Ted Covalt Age: 78 Home course: Willowick Golf Course Handicap: 12 What did you like about the CT58? It had great feel. The ball got up in the air very quickly and had good carry. Is there anything you didn't like about it? No. Would you put the CT58 in your bag? Yes. For me, it did the job. Name: Daniel Hyatt Age: 38 Home course: Oak Creek Golf Club Handicap: 18 What did you like about the CT58? It's forgiving, smooth and controllable. Is there anything you didn't like about it? It would take some time getting used to. Would you put the CT58 in your bag? I would definitely think about it. Name: Steve Petersen Age: 58 Home course: Oak Creek Golf Club Handicap: 2.8 What did you like about the CT58? It was forgiving on misses and easy to align. Is there anything you didn't like about it? It would take time to visually adapt to a "cube." And the sound is slightly too soft. Would you put the CT58 in your bag? I would maybe replace a third wedge with the 5-wood. It would be good for escaping from the rough. Name: Ross Parsons Age: 41 Home course: Aliso Viejo Golf Club Handicap: 20 What did you like about the CT58? I liked the compact square head. Is there anything you didn't like about it? No. Would you put the CT58 in your bag? Yes. I feel more comfortable with this than I do my other 5-wood. Name: Louie Nguyen Age: 42 Home course: Tijeras Creek Golf Club Handicap: 5 What did you like about the CT58? I liked the consistency of the ball flight. It was easy to launch. Is there anything you didn't like about it? Shaping shots is not as easy as it is with traditional fairway woods. Would you put the CT58 in your bag? Yes. The 5-wood would be a good fairway wood for long par 3s. |
