Some helpful tips for selling your used clubs.

By Annie AbramsPublished: February, 2008

Many avid golfers have old clubs in their closet or garage that are merely taking up space. Dust the cobwebs off those old beauties and sell them online.

There are a number of options.

At swingemagaingolf.com, sellers must complete an on-line form that describes the condition of the clubs. The company will then send a quote, and if you like the price being offered a prepaid UPS shipping box will be sent to your address. When the company receives the clubs, they'll confirm the condition and send you a check.

The process is similar at golfclubbroker.com. Sellers must pay for shipping but can receive many forms of payment, including check, I-Escrow Service, COD or credit through PayPal.

At craigslist.com, sellers set up an account and create a listing free of charge. The site's operators suggest dealing with local buyers so a face-to-face transaction can be made.

Options also are available for trading in your used clubs, such as golf-smith.com. Click on the site and follow the instructions. Typical payments come in the form of trade, credit or a gift certificate to be used in the store. A similar option is available at tgw.com.

Auction sites are another possibility, with eBay being the most popular. Choose "Sporting Goods" as your category and create a title and description of your item. Honesty and clarity are important, and be as descriptive as possible within the space allowed.

If you want help with pricing, the pricing and duration section shows an average eBay starting price and average sold price for your item.

Photos often help close the deal. Get your clubs camera ready with a scrub and shine, and take tight photos that will show the condition of the clubs.

Once a buyer has won your auction, you can select how you'd like to receive payment.
