In the Bag: Clubs

Here’s a look at some new clubs that will put you in the driver’s seat this year

By Southland Golf MagazinePublished: March, 2006

ALPHA GOLF V2 AND C830.2
Eric Jones, the 2003 long-drive champion, won the senior and open divisions at the 2006 Players Tour Orlando stop using the C830.2. Jim Yeh, president and chief designer of Alpha Golf, paired wide-body construction with a super-thin titanium face to achieve easier launches, low backspin, more distance and greater accuracy. The V2 offers a black face that registers point-of-impact marks to illustrate any needed swing adjustments before being wiped clean.

GOLF COAST VECTOR BETA TI 460
Golf Coast bets on the spring effect to improve the swing effect for players with a swing speed of less than 105 mph. The 460 MF features a super-thin face backed by a second face that allows spring but prevents overflexing. Golf Coast uses its trademark TC-101 beta alloy to create a strong toe and a stiff body — the one-two punch for reducing body flex and increasing energy transfer to the ball.

YONEX CYBERSTAR NANOSPEED
Yonex uses nano carbon, or fullerene, to create a faster-performing shaft that is lighter yet more stable than traditional graphite. Throw in an ultra-thin crown that redistributes mass lower and deeper within the clubhead and you’ve found the perfect storm for driver performance — a higher launch angle, decreased spin rate, larger sweet spot and greater moment of inertia.
