![]() The physical causes are numerous, beginning with stiffness in the muscles and joints in the lower body. The ability to separate the upper body from the lower body also plays a major part in this swing fault, as does lack of stability and mobility in the body's core section. Also, maintaining a proper spine angle and having good flexibility in the hips and shoulders are crucial. Here are some exercises to eliminate loss of posture: Half Kneeling Long Turns • Get in a half-kneeling position with your front foot directly in front of your lower knee. Sit as tall as possible. • Raise a golf club over your head and continue to try and sit as tall as possible. • Rotate your trunk and the club as far as possible in both directions. Go slow enough to maintain good posture and balance. • Repeat this movement 15 times on each side. Open Book Rib Cage Stretch • Lie on your side with your right leg slightly farther forward than your left leg. Place your left hand on your right knee to keep it from moving. • Grab your left rib cage with your right hand to assist the stretch, and rotate your trunk as far to the right as possible. • Hold for 10-20 seconds. • Repeat on the other side. Oblique Crunch • Lie on your back with your arms behind your head, knees bent and feet flat on the ground. • Perform a diagonal crunch by bringing your right elbow up to meet your left knee. • Curl up each segment of your spine one at a time, starting with your neck. • Repeat on the other side.
