Coachella quenchers

How green is that valley? When the mercury is high, the watering is deep.

by Southland GolfPublished: June, 2012

Summertime is the “other” season in the desert and those in the know flock to the Coachella Valley to play and sun at some of the world’s greatest golf courses, hotels and restaurants. It’s the perfect time to score sizzling deals only a short car ride away.

Although it is home to literally dozens of golf courses, you might know the Coachella Valley as the Date Capital of the World.

You also might have heard talk of a certain music festival that goes on (and on) there in the spring.

But after the camels, belly dancers, indie bands and date-chefs go home, all that plastic gets recycled, and temperatures rise, it’s pretty much open season for golfers.

And although each desert course needs about a million gallons of water a day, none of it comes with a screw top.

Nevertheless, in case anyone asks, California accounts for 99.5 percent of all the dates grown in the United States.

Perhaps best of all, no one will make you make you consume a date shake or wear a wristband. You can focus on golf.

From Palm Springs to Indio and Rancho Mirage to Thousand Palms, here are the offers that are just too good to miss!
