American Golf recently unveiled a comprehensive website to help patrons gain an edge on their golfing experiences. The user-friendly design at americangolf.com allows viewers to quickly locate the site’s amenities, which include the option to book a tee time at more than 80 courses across the country without a service fee. “This is giving the customer an additional channel [for booking times],” said Reilly Bayer, director of operation services for American Golf. “It’s not phasing out our pro shops, it’s allowing them to provide better service.” Another noteworthy feature is the assignment of a website to each course, which allows users to browse its specific promotions, events and discounts. The course sites also contain customizable driving directions and information on booking group outings such as weddings and tournaments. “We’re now able to market the courses in a more efficient way,” Bayer said. Book Details 50 Years At Yorba Linda Country Club One of Orange County’s oldest country clubs is celebrating its 50th anniversary on June 17 with a book detailing its rich history that began as the Yorba Linda Ranch and Country Club. Southland Golf contributor John Reger, who has written about golf for more than 15 years at regional and national publications, has been commissioned by the club to write the book. Club highlights include: • Richard Nixon was the first member. • The course held the first professional tournament in Orange County, The Yorba Linda Invitational in 1960. • The World Entertainment Golf Championship was held at the club in 1960 and attracted celebrities such as Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, and Danny Thomas. “We are excited about the anniversary,” said men’s club president Jerry Smith. “We are very proud of our history and look forward to sharing it with others.” |
