One on One with Adam Scott

Glenn Monday talks with the 25-year-old rising star.

BY GLENN MONDAYPublished: May, 2006

Adam Scott, 25, joined the PGA Tour in 2003 and was the youngest player that year at the Presidents Cup. He topped that by winning the Players Championship in 2004.

Here are some thoughts from this great young player, who followed up his unofficial win at the 2005 Nissan Open with a runner-up finish this year.

Glenn: When you swing, is there one key thought that you use from tournament to tournament?
Adam: Yes. The one thing I always keep in mind is to have my arms swinging the same speed as my body, so it all works as one piece. For me, when I get off, I know that my body is going faster than my arms.

Glenn: Do you work a lot on balance when you practice?
Adam: Yes, and my tempo and timing help with my balance. When I have good balance, I feel that I’m swinging well.

Glenn: How old were you when you first started playing golf?
Adam: Five or six years old. My dad is a professional, and he got me started and was my only teacher until I was 19 years old.

Glenn: Do you remember the first golf course you played as a 6-year-old, and how far did you hit your 7-iron at that age?
Adam: I can still picture the par-3 golf course I started out on and do recall hitting my 7-iron around 50 yards. I also remember I hit a lot of 3-woods around that course.

Glenn: What advice would you give to the junior players?
Adam: I’d say go out and have fun and enjoy the game.
