The Golf Channel commentators Brandel Chamblee and Frank Nobilo share some of their thoughts and insights into the game. Glenn: When you guys practice, what is your focus? Frank: Always on balance and control. Brandel: I find that if I make a full backswing pivot while maintaining a slight flex of my right knee, this helps me control the top of the backswing. Glenn: What is your favorite tip? Frank: When I work on balance, I find that good weight transfer equals good balance. Feel that your weight follows your swing. Brandel: If most amateurs could get help with their backswing coil, they would be pleased with the results. Glenn: What about grip pressure? Frank: I have discovered that for me holding with 70 percent strength in the left hand and 50 percent in the right gives me the best control. Brandel: When Frank said "discovered," that is the key word. Many players vary. It becomes individual. Each player must find the grip pressure that best suits them. To do that, practice, practice, practice. n Glenn Monday is a Los Angeles-based teaching professional and author of "Know Your Swing." He can be reached at (310) 322-8924. |
