One on One with Duffy Waldorf

Southland native Duffy Waldorf talks swing control with Glenn Monday.

BY GLENN MONDAYPublished: January, 2008

Los Angeles native Duffy Waldorf was the 1985 collegiate player of the year while attending UCLA. He joined the PGA Tour in 1987 and recently regained his card at Q-School.

Glenn: Do you have a follow-through tip for our readers?
Duffy: I visualize my finish before I put the swing in motion. I have a clear image in my mind and then swing into that position.

Glenn: How do you control your swing?
Duffy: I have discovered the style that fits me is left-side-control. My left hand is firm and sturdy. I pull through impact with the big muscles of my left side. My right side appears to shadow the action.

Glenn: What are you always working on?
Duffy: I want to swing within myself and have decent rhythm.

Glenn: How do you practice rhythm?
Duffy: My lack of flexibility gives me more control. I feel like I am controlling the length of my swing. The same back-swing position at the top helps my rhythm.

Glenn Monday is a Los Angeles-based teaching pro and author of "Know Your Swing." He can be reached at (310) 322-8924.
