![]() The most advanced golf instruction facility in the country just might be in Southern California. It’s The Golf Academy by The Sports Club/LA, which has been generating a steady buzz since opening in West Los Angeles earlier this year. The 6,000-square-foot venue, located right behind the renowned Sports Club/LA, offers cutting-edge technologies grouped together on an unprecedented scale. “From the aspect of teaching golf and running a golf academy, no one has what we have,” said PGA Director of Instruction Bob Grissett. “We have the highest level of visual feedback that’s available to the general public at a teaching facility.” The goal at The Golf Academy is simple — do whatever it takes to improve golfers as significantly and efficiently as possible. Grissett and his accomplished staff have an array of high-tech equipment to analyze swings and techniques, such as the biomechanics-measuring K-Vest TPI 3D suit, a database of over 1,500 tour golf swings for comparative purposes, and four different high-speed cameras in each of the instruction bays. One camera set is capable of measuring swings at 210 frames per second, allowing for the highest level of visual feedback. There’s also the SAM PuttLab, widely regarded as the most advanced putting analysis system in the world. The state-of-the-art instruction equipment is only one portion of The Golf Academy experience. Those seeking optimal improvement can undertake a comprehensive golf-specific fitness program, and clubfitting systems from most top equipment manufacturers — including Titleist, Nike, Callaway and Adams — are available. FlightScope, which incorporates Doppler radar to measure ball flight, determines ideal club models and characteristics. THE GOLF ACADEMY BY THE SPORTS CLUB/LA Facility: The venue has six hitting bays, a 600-square-foot putting green and a variety of state-of-the-art instruction, clubfitting and fitness equipment. Programs: The Golf Academy has a range of options to help golfers improve. The Player Development Program has different durations and lesson plans — as much as 12 months and 52 lessons — and there also are specific programs for juniors and beginners.
