![]() (photo: Mark Susson) Nothing is more important in a NASCAR race than the finish. Same with your golf swing. If your finish isn’t fundamentally strong, your consistency and preferred ball flight will suffer. Do your best to follow this simple checklist. Maintain your balance by keeping your weight on the balls of your feet and by having sound athletic posture (especially post impact). You will finish with your weight supported on your forward foot outstep, with your back foot providing a balance point only. Turn through the ball/impact zone. Make sure your belt buckle and sternum are pointing at your target. After a good extension, your club should rest on your left shoulder (for righties, opposite for lefties). Secret drill: Find the ball after impact at an angle. Stay bent over, maintaining your posture a bit longer than you normally would. Follow this advice and hopefully you’ll find the short grass (and not the rough) more regularly. Eric Lohman, PGA, is Oak Creek Golf Club’s PGA Director of Golf.
