One on One with Gary McCord

Gary McCord talks experience with Glenn Monday.

BY GLENN MONDAYPublished: December, 2007

Gary McCord is an author, Champions Tour player, commentator and student of the swing. Here are a few thoughts from the Garden Grove native.

Glenn: What advice would you like to give to the average golfer who wants to improve?
Gary: Learn the proper setup, which is the address position over the ball. A good athletic setup will help their balance during the swing.

Glenn: What else catches your eye when you watch the average golfer.
Gary: Impact, which can be improved if they start the swing with a good setup. As you swing the club-face into impact, you want to return to where you began. Setup, impact and balance are related.

Glenn: How do you control your swing plane?
Gary: My left arm controls my swing. Think of your left arm as a fly wheel and timing device.

Glenn Monday is a Los Angeles-based teaching pro and author of "Know Your Swing." He can be reached at (310) 322-8924.
