WATCH THE VIDEO HERE The right knee (for right-handed golfers) is a power point for creating energy. At address, the right knee should be flexed and set to the inside of the right instep. As your upper body turns away from the ball during the backswing, you should feel resistance building into the flexed right knee, right thigh and the instep of the right foot. Make sure you turn into your right side, not on to it. What you are feeling is energy being created. This could be equated to the likes of winding up a spring or wringing out a towel. In order to wring out a towel, you must hold one end firm. Then as you start turning or winding up the other end, the towel becomes tight and energy is created. Let go of one end and watch it unravel. This energy could not have been created if one end was not held firmly in its place. ![]() The same holds true in the golf swing. The right knee should be firm in its flex, resisting the tremendous coiling of the upper body. ![]() If the right knee straightens (left) or slides to the right (right) during the backswing, there will be a loss of energy, power and control.
