One on One with Mark Calcavecchia

Mark Calcavecchia talks strengths and short comings with Glenn Monday.

BY GLENN MONDAYPublished: November, 2007

Mark Calcavecchia, the 1989 British Open Champion, is enjoying one of his best years ever. Here he shares some insight into his swing.

Glenn: What is your strength as a player?
Mark: My swing shape doesn't vary too often. So, if I have a good setup, I feel confident that I can hit a good shot. Having said that, my strength is that my swing repeats.

Glenn: Your weaknesses?
Mark: Three main things I always work on: setup, balance and not getting too quick.

Glenn: How important is putting to your game?
Mark: I know for a fact that I have won a couple of tournaments when the only reason I won was that I was putting well.

Glenn: What advice would you give to people taking up golf?
Mark: Have fun playing the game. You will develop touch by instinct.
