One on One with Niclas Fasth

Swedish pro Niclas Fasth talks swing secrets with Glenn Monday.

BY GLENN MONDAYPublished: February, 2008

Niclas Fasth is a Swedish golfer on the rise. After finishing fourth at the 2007 U.S. Open, he flew to Germany the following week and won the BMW International Open. Fasth began 2008 ranked 20th in the world.

Glenn: How old were you when you began playing golf?
Niclas: I was 10 years old. I received coaching at a junior program in Sweden and by 14 I got serious about being a pro.

Glenn: What is the secret to the golf swing?
Niclas: The swing is the same for the last 50 years. The secret is sound basics, fundamentals and mechanics.

Glenn: What do you work on during practice sessions?
Niclas: One of the basics I always work on is balance. My driver speed is 115 mph. Balance is key to control.

Glenn: What is your thinking when you are under pressure?
Niclas: Keep everything positive, focus on your target and, for me, I want to be aggressive under pressure.

Glenn: Any balance tips?
Niclas: Think about making a full swing. Try not to stop short on the follow-through.
