![]() Glenn Monday is the author of "Know Your Swing" (Photo: Eddie Meeks). What was the first thing that attracted you to the game? As a kid, I was able to go out to the golf course, hit that driver, see the ball fly and then go find it. It seemed like a great adventure, and it still is today. What inspired you to become a golf teacher? When I was 8, my uncle would help me with my game. I was inspired by what he taught me and then would share his tips with my golfing buddies. Secondly, as a young pro, I was privileged to observe PGA champion Paul Runyan interact with his students. I carry those memories with me today. What’s the best golf tip you’ve ever received? Stick with the fundamentals, and once you’ve learned those, take it back slow to hold up under pressure, and take it back slow to hit it farther. What’s the most challenging thing about being a golf teacher? My challenge is to give each student a fundamentally sound golf swing that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. What’s the most common problem you see in your students, and how do you fix it? The most common problem is lack of instruction. What’s the most satisfying thing about being a golf teacher? I am helping people develop a special talent. A good swing equals more good shots and that means more fun. And in many cases, after taking up golf, the students become healthier. What’s your greatest achievement in golf? Developing a teaching method that has been well-documented for the past 20 years and has been very successful for the past 40 years. What’s your best round ever? I shot a 68 Woodmoor Country Club in Colorado. Your personal motto on the course? “Never give up.” You’ll surprise yourself with that type of thinking. What is your most treasured golf possession? It has to be the words written by Arnold Palmer on the front cover of my book, “Know Your Swing”: “It is teaching professionals like Glenn Monday who help to preserve the traditional values of the game.” |
