One on One with Woody Austin

Woody Austin talks constant learning with Glenn Monday.

BY GLENN MONDAYPublished: August, 2007

There is something about Woody Austin's game that keeps bringing him back to the winner's circle, with his most recent win coming at the Stanford St. Jude Championship in June.

Glenn: How did you learn the golf swing?
Woody: I did it myself. I gathered information wherever I could. I read Jack Nicklaus tips in the paper. I watched TV and watched guys on the range. I loved the game and put forth the effort.

Glenn: Any tips for us?
Woody: Work on balance and tempo. If you've got that, you'll get away with an occasional flaw.

Glenn: Any new discoveries?
Woody: I'm putting more focus on the mental. I believe more than ever that I can hit the shot under pressure.

Glenn: Do you have a swing thought under pressure?
Woody: I discovered that keeping my eyes still helps keep my head more still and that translates into greater consistency.
