Here are nine things you can do to im-prove your chances of playing well: 1) Get a full night’s sleep so you wake up rested for your round. 2) Start your day moving slowly and taking long, slow breaths. 3) Eat healthy and keep hydrated. It’s beneficial for most golfers to avoid sugar, caffeine and alcohol before a round. 4) Arrive at the course at least 30 minutes before your tee time. 5) Listen to calming music on the way to the course. 6) Hit about 20 balls on the range, starting with pitch shots and concluding with tee shots. 7) Before heading to the first tee, remain calm and trust your subconscious to allow yourself to play at your highest level. 8) On the first tee, use the longest club you have confidence in and visualize where you want the ball to go. Remember, success breeds success. 9) Don’t get discouraged if you start poorly. Great rounds often begin with not-so-great beginnings. Jack Bird is a former Orange County teaching professional. |
