2008 PGA Tour awards

Honoring Pat Perez, Greg Norman and Rory Sabbatini for their efforts during the season.

BY ELI MILLERPublished: December, 2008

The “Almost There” Award goes to former San Diego resident Pat Perez, who couldn’t notch win No. 1 in his seventh PGA Tour campaign but managed to lead the circuit in all-around ranking. He also earned the most money of his career (over $1.7 million). It’s only a matter of time before Perez breaks through.

The “Are You Kidding Me” Award goes to 53-year-old Greg Norman, who nearly pulled off the most shocking major win ever at the British Open. Chris Evert’s hubby hadn’t played a major since 2005, but he handled Royal Birkdale’s treacherous conditions better than anybody through the first 54 holes.

The “What Happened” Award goes to Rory Sabbatini, who seemed primed for a big campaign after a pair of top-three finishes in his first three events. But he failed to seriously contend for the rest of the year,  only notching one top-10 and almost falling outside the top 30 in the World Golf Rankings.
