The nine-member team of female professionals representing the Southern California PGA won both the four-ball and the singles competitions in the first-ever Women’s Cup matches held last month at Mission Hills Country Club.

Playing on the historic Dinah Shore Tournament Course, the SCPGA team defeated the team representing the Women’s Southern California Golf Council by a score of 7 to 4. The SCPGA women led by a single point after the morning four-ball matches and picked up three final points on the final hole of the afternoon singles events.

The SCPGA team featured Women’s Player of the Year and SCPGA Women’s Professional Champion Lehua Wise, as well as Carol Hogan, Tracy Lane, Jane Rosenberg, Patty Schram, Dale Shaw, Junko Suzuki and Mardell Wilkins. The team captain was SCPGA Golf Professional of the Year Susan Roll.

The Women’s Southern California Golf Council team featured Cheryl Wohlgemut, Sheila McCain, Fran Macomber, Ran Oh, Joan Higgins, Penny Bazuik, Kathy Kurata and Angela Collins, and was captained by WSCGA President Jody Nickel.

Elsewhere, Lehua Wise, an assistant PGA pro at Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa, won the 2011 Southern California PGA Women’s Professional Championship, held at the Grand Golf Club in San Diego.

Wise outlasted Carol Hogan of Desert Island Golf & Country Club, and won by three shots. Mardell Wilkins of Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita finished third. Wise is in her first year of PGA membership.
