Nico Mendoza of Yorba Linda rode a hot putter to victory in the Boys 15-19 division, with rounds of 71 and 76 at last month’s 36-hole International Junior Golf Tour championships at Temecula Creek. Opening the day with a five-shot lead, Mendoza began his final round with five pars and finished with three birdies on the final 13 holes. Tough pin placements and frosty conditions tested the players at both the Oak and Creek courses at Temecula Creek Inn. Samuel Schwartz of San Clemente continued his 2011 IJGT success with a victory in the Boys 14-and-under division, with solid rounds of 76 and 78. Competitors were unable to erase the seven-stroke lead he had built at the start of the final round. Avery French of Laguna Niguel shot her best round in an IJGT event to grab the Girls division title. She pared the final nine holes en route to a 1-under-par 71 in her first round, followed by a 77. The win marked her third in as many IJGT events. |
