Santa Clarita's Robinson Ranch Golf Club will play host to the fifth-annual American Junior Golf Association's West Junior Open from Monday, July 6 through Thursday, July 9. The AJGA's top-99 boy and girl junior golfers between the ages of 12-18 are eligible to compete.
In 2008, Mario Clemens of Beverly Hills finished at 5-under-par for the tournament, carding a 72-68-71–211 to capture his first AJGA Open title. In the Girls Division, Alison Lee of Valencia won by six shots at 72-68-68–208. This year’s event will be a 54-hole stroke play competition. The diverse field represents six states and Mexico, with 78 California natives. In the Boys Division, Anton Arboleda of La Canada is No. 45 in the Polo Golf Rankings and has three career AJGA top-five finishes. Ani Gulugian of Irvine — who qualified for the 2009 U.S. Women's Open earlier this month — will be competing in the Girls Division and is currently No. 20 in the Polo Golf Rankings. First-and second-round tee times will begin at 7 a.m., as will the final round with an awards ceremony immediately following. Spectators are welcome to attend and admission is free of charge. A portion of the 99-player field will be reserved for players earning entry via the 18-hole K12 Qualifier, which will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start Sunday, July 5. |
