The Golf Club of California in Fallbrook played host to the 2009 San Diego County Amateur earlier this week. The 36 hole event was contested on July 6-7. San Diego's Milas Russell and Colin Featherstone needed a two-hole playoff to decide the victor. Russell got to the playoff by shooting a pair of 2-under-par 70s while Featherstone shot 69-71. Featherstone's 3-under-par score was tied for low-round of the tournament. Both men watched their par putts slip by the first playoff hole, the par-3 18th, but Russell won the event with a two-putt par on the par-4 first hole. San Diego's Shane Mason finished third at 143, Tony Toulon (Vista) and Kenneth McCready (San Diego) rounded out the top-five at 144 and 149, respectively. San Diego's Terry Hanks won the Senior Championship with a total of 161 and John Lane (Murrieta) won the Net Division at 146. For full results, visit amateurgolf.com. |
