After the round of 32, many Southern California players are still alive at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links. Stroke play medalist Stephanie Kono (Honolulu, HI), who will be a sophomore at UCLA in the fall, defeated her soon to be teammate Tiffany Lua (Rowland Heights) 2 &1 in the morning 18 at Red Tail Golf Club, in Devens, Mass. Fellow Pac-10 golfer Lizette Salas (Azusa) of USC also moved on to the round of 16 by besting her opponent 2 & 1. UC Davis player Alice Kim (Walnut) continued her quest for victory at the Pub Links by beating out Victoria Park of Korea 5 & 4. Jennifer Song (Korea), an incoming freshman at USC and UCLA senior Sydnee Michaels (Temecula) also moved on to the third round after besting their competitors 5 & 4 and 2 & 1, respectively. The third round of match play is currently under way. Kono is facing off against Jisoo Park (Korea); Salas is taking on Cydney Clanton (Concord, N.C), Song is playing against Brittany Altomare (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Kim is challenging Cassie Cathrea (Livermore, Calif.) and Michaels has yet to tee off against Whitney Neuhauser (Charlottesville, Va.). Those who move on today will compete in the quarterfinal match beginning at 8 a.m. tomorrow. The semifinal will follow in the afternoon, with the finals taking place on Friday.
