The American Junior Golf Association held its Preseason Junior at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont last week. The Preseason Junior at Oak Valley is one of eight events held as part of the Golf Academy of America Preseason Junior Series. The 36-hole stroke-play event featured 95 boys and girls, ages 12-18, from nine states and Canada. The boys division played the course at 6,812 yards, while the girls division played it at 5,831 yards. In the boys division, Bobby Gojuangco (San Diego), Andrew Rudy (San Diego) and Zane Thomas (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished in a three-way tie for medalist honors after shooting 3-over-par 147. Thomas, who was in and out of the lead all day, said that he and Gojuangco both played in the final group and they traded birdies and bogeys with no knowledge that Rudy was working on a low number several holes ahead. Rounding out the top 5 were Brett Silvernail (Ventura) and Justin Pagila, who tied for fourth at 4-over-par 148. In the girls division, Lilia Vu (Fountain Valley) won by four shots over Raegan Bremer (Anaheim Hills) posting a 2-over-par 146. Bremer followed with a final 150 and Alexia Gariepy (Murrieta) placed third at 154. The Golf Academy of America Preseason Junior Series is a series designed specifically for first-time AJGA members or those members who have not yet been accepted to or participated in an AJGA event in the current calendar year and/or the previous calendar year.
