Zhang and Lee finish tied for fifth at AJGA Rolex Girls Junior Invitational

Putting instrumental for both Southern Californians.

By Denise DeChainePublished: June, 2010

The American Junior Golf Association hosted the Rolex Girls Junior Invitational at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C. on June 14-17.

Alison Lee (Valencia) and Nicole Zhang (La Quinta) tied for fifth at 2-over-par 215. Lee cited her fifth place finish was due to putting errors.

“My shots were really good but I think putting is what got me," Lee said. "I had an overall good score but I could have played better with fewer mistakes.”

When asked about what her thoughts were about her play at the invitational, Zhang said that her putting is what helped her the most.

“I thought I played pretty well," Zhang said. "My swing didn’t feel too good throughout the week but my putting was really good, so that helped and made up for it.”

Last year, Lee qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa.

Earlier this year, Zhang finished third at a Cactus Tour event at Southern Dunes in Maricopa, Ariz. She received a full scholarship to play on the women’s golf team at Notre Dame starting this fall.
