Aaron Goldberg won the Canadian Tour’s ClubLink Jane Rogers Championship Sunday, defeating Trey Denton with a chip-in eagle on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff at Greystone Golf Club in Halton Hills, Ontario, Canada. The two had both finished at 8-under par after 72 holes of regulation play. The 25-year-old Goldberg, a former standout on the men’s golf team at San Diego State University, has now won his last two starts on the Canadian Tour. He sits atop the Order of Merit with $95,912.33, more than $36,000 ahead of his next-closest pursuer. There are only two events left on the Canadian Tour schedule, meaning the Carlsbad resident is almost assured of wrapping up the money title and earning a free pass through the first stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School. “That exemption is a huge incentive for us. But I have to keep playing well and ride that momentum,” said Goldberg. “I want to finish the season strong.” Goldberg won the Canadian Tour Players Cup in July to earn $48,000 and vault into first place on the Order of Merit. Earlier this year, he Monday-qualified for the PGA Tour’s Sony Open. He made the cut but did not finish, posting rounds of 70-71-70 to tie for 72nd and earn $10,615. Goldberg also competed in the Nationwide Tour’s Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic earlier this month, an event won by Long Beach native Peter Tomasulo. Goldberg tied for 36th there after a promising start with opening rounds of 67-67. Visit the Canadian Tour website for complete results from the ClubLink Jane Rogers Championship. |
