![]() Thanks to his success on the Canadian Tour, Carlsbad resident Aaron Goldberg has earned a pass to the second stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School (COURTESY: Canadian Tour Communications). A Southern Californian has assembled one of the best seasons in Canadian Tour history. It’s Aaron Goldberg, a Carlsbad resident who emphatically captured the Canadian Tour Championship over the weekend at St. Catharines Golf & Country Club in Ontario. The 25-year-old registered a 15-under-par total to win by six strokes over a quintet of players, giving him three victories in his last four starts on the circuit and a lock on the Canadian Tour Order of Merit crown. A former standout on the San Diego State men’s golf team, Goldberg earned $52,000 for the win and has racked up $151,912.33 for the year, shattering Trevor Dodds’ previous single-season Tour record of $129,158. What’s perhaps most impressive is that Goldberg amassed that money in only seven starts — he has finished inside the top nine in each of his other four appearances. “This really seals off the year for me,” Goldberg said after winning the Tour Championship. “It’s been quite an unbelievable season.” Besides his earnings, the biggest reward is a pass to the second stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School. “Getting through that first stage is just a huge bonus,” he said. “Not having to worry about that takes some pressure off. That’s the time of year you want to be playing your best.” Visit the Canadian Tour website for complete results from the Canadian Tour Championship.
